How He tells it...

“On Monday morning, July 18th 2016, I prayed while driving to work in Syracuse, New York. I asked God to hurry up and deliver my soulmate. Specifically, I asked him to deliver a strong-willed woman, a woman...

who could help grow a faith based relationship, a relationship like I had never experienced before. At the end of the prayer, God spoke to me one specific name…Laura. July 21st, just Three days later, I was Haiti bound on a week long missions trip with a group from Victory Highway Church. As we deplaned at the Port Au Prince airport, we were introduced to our evangelical leader for the week, Mike MacNeil, and his daughter…Laura. God sometimes works in subtle ways, and sometimes he drops a bomb in your lap. The moment I saw Laura I instantly knew she was the "one", and I instantly knew God had answered a prayer. The 5 months that followed this short encounter tell almost like a fable. One in which I quit my executive job in the states, gave up my home and my comfortable life, all to move to Haiti in pursuit of a girl, and the path God asked me to follow.

How she tells it...

When I dreamed about finding someone, I dreamt of a teammate—someone who would travel the world with me, a man with heart for ministry and a passion for the Lord. I was 3 years into living in Haiti...

and although life was full, I wasn’t sure if I was going to find that kind of soulmate. I know I gave him a funny look when he told me he was moving to Haiti. It's something I've heard a lot before, but people don't usually follow through. I heard from Matthew a few days later once he returned to New York. It was the beginning of countless messages we sent back and forth throughout the fall months. In January 2016, Gideon moved into my house full time and I began to learn what it means to be a mom. That was the same January Matthew also moved to Haiti. I thought the Lord’s timing couldn’t have been worse, but the truth is it couldn’t have been better. Matthew was unfazed by the fact that I was adopting a child and he instantly shared a bond with Gideon. The rest, as they say, is history—mixed in with a million little adventures of living life in Haiti. It’s still overwhelming to think of how God pieced our entire family together this past year. He’s redirected each of our paths in major ways, and when we look back, we see His hand in all of it.
